Ginger is a flowering plant whose scientific name is Zingiber officinate. The thick root of this plant is not only used as a spice but also as a homemade remedy to different health problems due to its medicinal property. Though ginger is used throughout the world it is predominantly used in Asian and Indian cuisine. Ginger being originated in India is widely produced in China, Nepal, Indonesia, Nigeria, etc. Ginger is an aromatic, spicy and a pungent spice. It is the best spice for those who don’t consume garlic and onion. It has a sandy reddish-brown colour.

USES

Ginger is used as a spice, perfume and medicine. It is consumed raw, in dry powdered form, in oil form and as a juice. It is peeled and the chopped, grated or made into paste to form the base of many Indian curries. Dry ginger powder is used to flavour cookies, ginger bread and cakes. Raw ginger is used to make pickles and chutneys in Indian household. Gari is a famous Japanese pickled ginger. It is simply infused in hot water to make herbal ginger tea and along with different aromatics in most famous masala chai (spiced tea) of India. The candied form of ginger is a must for every child. Eaten as a salad dish, in soups and in wine and beers ginger with different countries has got its different way of using it.
